Logistikforschung ist in Dortmund an zahlreichen unterschiedlichen Instituten und Einrichtungen verortet und bietet eine Plattform für den interdisziplinären Austausch zwischen Forschenden aber auch als Brücke in die Industrie. Die Community des Leistungszentrums richtet sich an alle Agierenden, die Interesse an exzellenter Logistikforschung haben und einen Beitrag dazu leisten wollen.

Our research infrastructure
Test centres and laboratories for all.
The logistics research facilities in Dortmund have an excellent research infrastructure – with each facility set up to focus on their own aspects of research. These include the research and application centre at the Innovationlab for Hybrid Services in Logistics at the TU Dortmund and the Fraunhofer IML as well as the ZFT hall for cellular transport systems at Fraunhofer IML and the laboratories for labour research at IfADo. The Center of Excellence Logistics and IT is now opening its test halls and experimental fields to the research community. All test systems and demonstrators can be used for scientific studies, for studies with industry, but also for bachelor, master’s or doctoral theses. The provision and use of laboratory capacities and equipment will be handled unbureaucratically – with as little red-tape as possible.
Application center
In the application centre at the Innovationlab for Hybrid Services in Logistics at the Fraunhofer IML, numerous test systems are available for the fields of intralogistics, maintenance, production, transport and employee training.
Research center
The research centre at the Innovationlab for Hybrid Services in Logistics at the TU Dortmund is equipped with state-of-the-art systems from the fields of localisation and wireless communication as well as various demonstrators.
LivingLab Cellular Transport Systems
The research hall for “Cellular Conveying Technology” (ZFT) at Fraunhofer IML is one of the largest test centres for the application of artificial intelligence in intralogistics, covering an area of 1,000 square metres. Numerous demonstrators – from intelligent containers to vehicle swarms with sensor technology – illustrate the control principles of the Internet of Things in this LivingLab.
Ifado Labs
The movement laboratory and the virtual reality laboratory at the Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors at the TU Dortmund (IfADo) offer state-of-the-art equipment for experiments in the field of cognitive ergonomics. These include test systems for motor and sensory abilities, mobile EEG and EMG measurement systems or force plates and analysis software for balance measurements.

Die Labs des Leistungszentrums haben ein umfangreiches Transferangebot entwickelt, damit Unternehmen die Forschungsinfrastruktur des Leistungszentrums kennenlernen und mit Fachleuten aus dem Innovationsökosystem an konkreten Fragestellungen arbeiten können. Die neuen Workshops, Trainings & Co. werden jetzt erstmals übersichtlich geordnet in einer Broschüre dargestellt.

Datenbrillen, Pick-by-Voice oder doch die klassische Pickliste mit Scanner? Das Picking Lab im Leistungszentrum Logistik und IT. Unternehmen können hier die richtige Kommissionier-Technologie für ihr Lager finden.
Große Freude über AHEAD-Förderung: »XR-AGIL«-Team treibt Ausgründung voran
Mit Unterstützung aus dem Fraunhofer AHEAD-Programm lotet das Team »XR-AGIL« aus dem Leistungszentrum Logistik und IT derzeit das Potenzial einer Ausgründung aus: Stolze 50.000 Euro stehen zur Verfügung, um das Vorhaben voranzutreiben, unter anderem für die Entwicklung von zwei Demonstratoren. Außerdem soll mit den Mitteln Marktanalyse betrieben werden. Die AHEAD-Förderung ist nicht nur für das Team selbst, sondern auch für das Leistungszentrum ein großer Erfolg.

»Artificial intelligence in logistics« as diverse as logistics itself
A new whitepaper produced as part of the Center of Excellence now presents the basics of AI as well as current developments and future fields of application for AI in logistics and discusses them in terms of application maturity.

Future Challenges in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
The publication series “Future Challenges in Logistics and Supply Chain Management” by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML takes up current challenges, highlights trends and focuses on new technologies and business models. The following four white papers from the Center of Excellence Logistics and IT have appeared in the series so far:
Kognitive Ergonomie in der Logistik
Die Digitalisierung in der Intralogistik geht mit Veränderungen der Arbeitsplätze in der Kommissionierung einher. Hierdurch ausgelöste Belastungen sollen analysiert werden, um diese im Sinne einer humanzentrierten, ergonomischen Gestaltung für den Beschäftigten zu optimieren.
Herausforderungen der Mensch-Technik-Interaktion in der Intralogistik
Der technische Fortschritt führt zu flexibleren, dynamischen Prozessen, deren Komplexität immens steigt. Der Mensch mit seinen vielseitigen Fähigkeiten wird weiterhin ein wesentlicher Bestandteil dieser Systeme sein. Es bedarf jedoch neuer Formen der Mensch-Technik-Interaktion. Techniksysteme müssen sich an den Menschen dynamisch anpassen, um so die Stärken beider Seiten optimal zu nutzen.
Paradigmenwechsel der Planung und Steuerung von Wertschöpfungsnetzen
In komplexer werdenden Wertschöpfungsnetzen müssen Entscheidungen zukünftig schneller und fundierter getroffen werden. Im Zuge dessen ist es unabdingbar, neue Methoden zur Entscheidungsunterstützung zu entwickeln. Vor dem Hintergrund des Paradigmenwechsels hin zur Industrie 4.0 wird die Planung und Steuerung entsprechender Netze gravierend von Ansätzen der Modellierung und Simulation profitieren.
Bedeutung von Daten im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung
Die wachsende Bedeutung der Ressource Daten in der Erstellung hybrider oder rein digitaler Geschäftsmodelle stellt Unternehmen stetig vor neue Herausforderungen. Unternehmen müssen durch eine ganzheitliche, wissenschaftlich fundierte Betrachtung von der Modellierung über die Architektur und Verwendung konkreter Technologien unterstützt werden.
Logistik IT im Wandel
Haben früher große, monolithische Softwaresysteme die Gesamtprozesse im Lager, im Unternehmen und in der Supply Chain gesteuert, so werden diese in den letzten Jahren immer häufiger durch eine Vielzahl modularer Softwarepakete ergänzt und abgelöst.
