Two weeks, two digital lectures and three digital workshops were this year’s replacement program for the PhD School of Logistics – the Summer School of the Graduate School of Logistics, which unfortunately had to be cancelled this year due to Corona/COVID-19 in its original personal format. Over 35 participants from seven different countries took part in the free series. This year, not only doctoral students were admitted, but also company representatives and other interested parties from logistics and IT. The main topic was “Digital Twins in Logistics and Supply Chain Management”.
The Graduate School of Logistics is one of the excellence features of the Center of Excellence Logistics and IT, which was accordingly involved not only in the organisation but also in the content design, for example the Research Clan Information Logistics with a digital workshop on “How to design a Digital Twin”. Within the next five years there will be billions of things represented by digital twins. These representatives of the physical world will lead to new opportunities for collaboration between physical world experts and data scientists. Digital twins are strong thought leaders who drive innovation and performance. This is why they are also an important component in the implementation of the Silicon Economy – the Big Picture at the science location Dortmund.
