Visit to the Center of Excellence Program Directorate

Yesterday, the Center of Excellence Logistics and IT received a visit from the headquarters of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in Munich. Simon Ammer and Benjamin Kinsky form the Program management of the centers of Excellence and were given a comprehensive insight into the work of the performance center. Thematically, we looked back together on the further development of the LZ over the last 7 years, but also talked a lot about goals, strategies, transfer projects and our new ideation process, the Call for Ideas.

One focus of the day was to demonstrate the performance center’s infrastructure in a lab tour: In the Pace Lab, the LoadRunner driverless transport vehicles zoomed through the hall and impressively demonstrated the potential of AI-based vehicle swarms in logistics. Various picking techniques could be tested in the Picking Lab, the Exoskeleton Lab was all about ergonomics in logistics, we presented our forklift simulator in the XR Lab and to round things off, the Escape Room was a puzzle about Industry 4.0.

The program directorate oversees all 21 performance centers in Germany and is responsible for evaluating their success at the end of the three-year term. Each of the performance centers is an incubator for the transfer of scientific knowledge, but has its own thematic profile and unique selling point.
